About Look4Local
Look4Local is a free community site in support of ethical consumerism and connecting people and local ethical sellers.
Ethical consumerism is buying things that are made ethically from sellers that operate in an ethical way including supporting an ethical supply chain.
At Look4Local, you can:
- Share and find ethical consumerism options.
- Become 'a regular' at (and in this way endorse) favourite sellers.
- Flag up deviations from the Look4Local ethos, which is in this way defined and redefined by a community of committed users. (Coming soon!)
Like all principles of correct moral conduct, ethical consumerism is a necessary and organic process.
Local is Best?
A number of standards and labels have been introduced to inform consumers and encourage responsible buying, including 'fairtrade', 'sweatshop free clothing', 'organic', 'free-range', and 'recycled'. Further to these, locally sourced products and produce can support all or any of the following:
- Local communities if they use local resources and materials;
- Protection of the environment through fewer food miles; and
- Protection of individual health – providing products are free of the chemicals and other problems familiar to mass-produced goods.
Locally sourced should still mean ethically sourced.
Listed Sellers
Only sellers who operate in an ethical way and support an ethical supply chain are entitled to a Look4Local website. Our online community monitor this. (I'm an ethical seller: sign me up!)
