About Look4LocaL beta

Look4Local is a free service through which to discover and share green shopping and living choices. Launched in October 2007, we will be unlocking new features, as we build an independent community founded on the principal of ethical consumerism.

Look ahead: Now with ethical suppliers on board, and numbers growing, in summer 2008, The Look4Local Team will launch the first community features.

Look4Local Ethos and Consumer Responsibility

Ethical consumerism is buying things that are made ethically. Through Look4Local, you will soon be able to point to best practitioners of as well as flag up deviations from the Look4Local ethos, which is in this way defined and redefined by a community of committed users. Like all principles of correct moral conduct, ethical consumerism is a necessary and organic process.

Local is Best?

A number of standards and labels have been introduced to inform consumers and encourage responsible buying, including 'fairtrade,' 'sweatshop free clothing,' 'organic,' 'free-range,' and 'recycled.' Further to these, locally sourced can support all or any of the following:

  • Local communities if they use local resources and materials;
  • Protection of the environment through fewer food miles; and
  • Protection of individual health – providing products are free of the chemicals and other problems familiar to mass-produced goods.

Crucially, locally sourced should still mean ethically sourced.

The Look4Local Team

We are a small group of Wales and Barcelona based friends, with a shared belief that strong, nurturing local communities bring about healthy, happy people. Each of us can connect to our neighbourhood, and in a number of small revolutions bring about exciting change.
